Samaj Pragati Sahayog is always on the look out for people who have the passion, determination and energy to work on its myriad development interventions. We are normally on the look out for engineers/technical personnel for our watershed, shelter, sanitation, drinking water, renewable energy, rural electrification and training and support programmes, for veterinary science professionals for our livestock initiatives, for agriculture professionals to work on our rainbow agriculture and No Pesticidal Management programmes, for development professionals who can add value to our Self Help Group, Livelihoods and Right to Food programmes. We look for people who will provide creativity, passion and commitment to each of our organisation's initiatives and who are capable of egoless team-work and who seek a challenging professional environment that is both enriching and rewarding. The selected candidates are expected to work in close coordination at the grassroots with village communities in each of these aspects of their work. The chosen persons also provide, as members of our SVO faculty, training and field based support to our partner voluntary organisations. We look forward to people who like to take time out to reflect and write about what they do.
Potential candidates should be B.E, Diploma (Engg), BSc (Soila and Water Conservation), MSc(Agri), MSW or PGDRD from reputed institutions across the country for other posts. Over the years we have had students from TISS, IRMA, XISS, Department of Social Work, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi School of Social Work, GB Pant Social Science Institute, Indore School of Social Work, along with a host of engineering and technical graduates who have chosen to work with SPS. In addition, SPS also offers internships for students
For the right person, we offer an attractive pay package, including provident fund and gratuity, medical expenses, comfortable accommodation at the edge of a teak forest in the Narmada valley and wholesome food in a fully equipped campus with computers, internet facilities, satellite television and sports.
Women candidates will be given preference for all these positions. Applicants must be able to read, write and communicate in Hindi and English. Watershed Development Engineer
Description: The concept of Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) has been recognised all over the world as a tool for improving irrigation management along with the sustainability of the system. The major goal is to address the “last mile connectivity” in irrigation commands and make water accessible for the tail-end women farmers. We are currently inviting applications for the position of: Position: Programme Officer, Water Governance The selected candidates will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing multi-dimensional interventions in Water Governance. At SPS, we work primarily with small and marginal women farmers whose livelihoods depend on limited landholdings. Our approach, grounded in Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM), emphasises in: Water Governance Water Accessibility to the tail-end women farmers Soil Conservation Optimum Use of irrigated water Key Responsibilities: Implement the Participatory Irrigation Management Programme at designated locations. Support the work of SPS to promote participatory, equitable and sustainable management of surface and ground water resources. Facilitate the creation and functioning of Water-User Groups around groundwater and surface water across project areas. Develop participatory governance systems for common pool resources such as groundwater. Prepare and implement watershed, NRM and livelihood plans for the Water-User Groups in a participatory way to enhance livelihoods, income and sustainable development. Organise campaigns, public meetings to generate awareness on sustainable water use. Document the countless untold stories of social transformation made possible through water security in a drought-prone, dry land region. Conducting empowerment programmes for other NGOs, PRI members, government officials, village watershed committee members and others at community level. Assist in the development of training material to be used in the empowerment programmes of the Baba Amte Centre for People's Empowerment. Eligibility & Requirements: Post-graduate degree in Water Governance/ Development/ Social Work/ Rural Management/ Geology or holding equivalent qualification from. B.E. or B. Tech in Agriculture Engineering (preferred). 1 to 2 years of experience working with rural communities. Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Hindi and English. Demonstrates excellent communication skills, a strong willingness to learn, and a deep commitment to building meaningful relationships with women farmers.
